Welcome to the Devizes Almshouse Charity
We do not have any vacant properties. We are currently unable to take applications or expressions of interest for an Almshouse due to the volume of interest we have received.
Devizes Almshouse Charity provides independent living accommodation for older people of Devizes and the neighbouring villages who are in financial need.
Devizes Almshouse Charity was officially formed in 1904 when the Devizes Municipal Charities was split into two parts. The history of the Charity can be traced back to the 15th century but it is believed the roots of the Charity lie in the 12th or 13th centuries.
There are 56 properties across the site. Some of the newest properties were built on the site of the former St. James Hospital. This was a Victorian building which was originally a workhouse and then operated as a hospital for geriatric patients for many years. Our most recently constructed almshouses, built in 2014, received a Highly Commended award in the National Almshouse Association Patron’s awards for architecture.
