Accommodation

Our Almshouse site is situated in the centre of Devizes, within easing walking distance of the shops and doctors’ surgeries. The Almshouses are set in a peaceful location near to the canal, on an enclosed site. There are communal gardens for everyone to enjoy.

We have 56 properties, a mixture of one bedroomed units and two bedroomed units. Successful single applicants will be offered a one-bedroom property and couples will be offered a two-bedroom property.

All properties are ground floor accommodation, mostly bungalow style. All the properties have a kitchen, bathroom (all with walk in shower, no bath), sitting room and bedroom(s).  The properties are unfurnished, although cookers, a fridge-freezer and floor coverings are provided.  All the properties have gas central heating, maintained by the Charity. The properties have space for a washing machine. In addition, there are communal washing and drying facilities in two locations on site.

Properties may have a small area of garden which the resident(s) can tend, if they would like to. The communal gardens are maintained by a garden contractor in accordance with the instruction of Trustees.

We have a rolling maintenance programme which is administered by our Property Maintenance Co-ordinator. This ensures that the boilers are regularly serviced and replaced when needed, for example.

Facilities

The Charity provides a hall for the residents to use for social events, which helps to foster a local community for our residents and helps to address social isolation. There is an active Social Club where a variety of events are hosted to include bingo nights, coffee mornings, curling afternoons and singing entertainment. Residents can invite their friends and families to share in these events.

Residents receive a range of benefits from the Charity, including our on-site Warden who performs the role of a ‘good neighbour’, who can check on residents daily. All our properties have recently received an upgrade to the lifeline (emergency call) system and all residents are provided with a lifeline pendant. Unfortunately, the charity is not able to provide any level of nursing care. All residents must be able to live independently or arrange their own care privately.

Please note that only small pets are allowed on site, for example cats or caged birds. Unfortunately, the site has shared gardens and is not suitable for dogs. Please contact the Charity if you need any further clarification.

There is very limited parking on site and there are no reserved spaces.
